A physical therapist is someone that treats musculoskeletal problems, pain conditions and helps you with physical rehabilitation after injury.
A physical therapist is essential to rehabilitate optimally after surgery. They are also important when it comes to treating pain in the body, muscle or joint problems as well as balance issues. They are experts at strengthening and rehabilitating the body and use a combination of therapeutic exercise, modalities and manual therapy to improve your condition.
The plan of care is completely individualized, and varies greatly depending on your issue and your life situation. However, if an average was to be given, the most common plans of care range between 4-8 weeks.
Wear something that you are comfortable with and is easy to move around in. Most people wear a tee and shorts. Avoid clothing such as tight jeans or dresses in general.
Comfortable clothing. Proper identification. Insurance information. Referral from your doctor. If you have a report from imaging (x-rays, MRI, CT, etc.) then please bring this as well.
After you have filled out paperwork at the front desk, you will see your physical therapist. The first part of the evaluation is brief medical history and you will share what your problem is, and why you are coming to see them. Following this, they will evaluate you and ask you to perform different movements and tasks to get a full picture of your ailment. If there is time, treatment will be performed. You will then be prescribed a plan of care which usually includes a couple of home exercises, and be set up for follow up visits by the front desk staff.
